To start at the beginning of this fascinating love story (gag!) look under How I met my hubby, a change of plans, and the picture. I wish I could link those but I am not that computer savvy!
Stacey and Jeff convinced me to finally meet Eric. I saw the picture of him (and his beautiful daughter!) in December and we finally met on February 8th. I was at home alone getting ready for our meeting. (We will refer to it as a meeting, not a date. If you know Eric and I well, we disagree over what it is called.) I was living back at home with my parents while finishing Jr. college. *side note* I wasn't doing very well in college, but remember, I was focused. *wink* While I was getting ready, the electricity decided to go out! I could not believe it. I called my friend Rhonda and she graciously allowed me to use her home to get ready. Not that I needed to look that good because we were just going to be friends.
I arrived at Applebee's about 5 min. before we were supposed to be there. Stacey and Jeff were joining us so it would not be uncomfortable. In usual Jeff and Stacey fashion, they were running late. So, I waited. By myself. Unbeknowest to me, they had called Eric and told him they were late so he was arriving later. I looked like such a loser. When Jeff and Stacey finally got there, we found our seats. Eric was still not there. He had decided to run Chelsea's car seat back to her mom's house. I hadn't dated many men who had to run a car seat back to his ex's house but whatever. Oh, and we weren't on a date. We were on a meeting! *wink* Jeff saw Eric arrive and met him at the door. I still remember seeing him walking behind Jeff to the table. My first reaction? I turned to Stacey and said, "You didn't tell me he was short!" He was wearing this not so cool shirt, a leather jacket with silver zippers, and he was sporting 3 earrings! Yikes! Sooo not my type! But I was there and couldn't very well leave. Oh and Stacey's response to me? "He's not short!" (Stacey is barely 5 foot!)
There was not a lot of talking during dinner. First meetings can be so awkward! While we were sitting there, I noticed my ex-boyfriend driving by! He slowed down when he saw me but thankfully kept going. (btw, this was the one who thought I "stalked" him. My friends and I used to pretend to stalk him to annoy him! He probably thought I was stalking him that night!) When the check came, wow, that was incredibly awkward! I just assumed he would pay. Well, no, he asked how we were splitting it. Thank the Lord Jeff picked up the entire tab. How embarrassing to be with a guy and he not pay!! (that's why I refer to it as a meeting. A guy always pays for a date. Unless you're married) Jeff and Stacey wanted to continue to the date so they suggested getting a movie and something to loosen us up. Oh boy! For those who know me, you know I have never, ever been a drinker. So this should be interesting.
Well, I have to cook dinner, so this will have to be finished later! You will hear of the other (sorta) ex, the lightening bolt, some juice on the couch, and an iron butterfly, and what turned out to be a very humiliating, humbling, teachable night. And remember, no judging! We all do silly things!
