First Day of School

Well, we survived! According to Andrew, it was horrible. According to me, it went pretty well. ;-) They listened very well (for the first day) and tried very hard to accomplish and stay on task. My kids definitely listen better in the mornings. They tend to get more hyper as the day goes on. So, I at least get the "important" subjects out of the way in the mornings.

We talked about John 3:16 (the first verse that has to be memorized for awana's) and why it is an important verse. We talked a bit about how you need to invite Jesus to live in your heart and live that out. I asked for examples and Abi responded, "It's like if you don't want to go to church, you like (insert a phh noise here) go anyways!" I love it! So cute! We spent a lot more time today on spiritual matters. I had to remind myself that is one of our main reasons for homeschooling. They did very well during their devotional time. They were both able to tell me what they learned from their separate lessons. Andrew read a story that had a woman named Wilma in it. He kept calling her Wilam. It was hysterical! Abi shocked me during spelling and math. She knows a lot more than I give her credit for. Andrew has apparently become a speed reader which is pretty neat given all the problems (aka mommy that went nutso over it) we had earlier with it.

When the day was over, I was pretty happy with our first day of school. Then I realized I have to do this again tomorrow. *sigh* But I will have a good attitude!! I want to know how people finish before lunch! I admit we did last year but (oh this is hard to admit) I did a horrible job schooling last year. I just kinda randomly picked stuff out of the air and did it.

On a side note, I bought my first pair of shorts in 5 years today!! I can't believe it. They are to my knees but I feel comfortable in them. (I think) Kohl's had a wonderful sale! Small group was fun tonight. We ate dinner and watched the Olympics. We are blessed with some great friends! The Morrill's are celebrating 19 yrs. and we felt pretty special that they spent this evening with us. (they had a week with no kids last week so they celebrated then. I was worried too!)

I hope you all have a great day tomorrow! God Bless!

Congrats on a good first day of school! Don't you love the style of shorts right now? You can wear them, but they cover so much!
