The weekend

On Saturday it was back to Arlington for me. I attended the Homeschool Book Fair at the Convention Center. Three other moms went with me. I really didn't need anything at the book fair so I just enjoyed visiting. It was shocking how much more curriculum has been this year. It's still cheaper than private school! Afterwards we headed to Scholastic for their big warehouse sale. Then we ate at an incredible Mexican restaurant. We stopped in Terrell on the way home and ate a bit of dessert and did a bit of shopping. Great combinations if you ask me!

So speaking of Mother's Day and great gifts....well let's just say mine didn't turn out like I thought it would. Apparently no one in my home decided it was important to tell me Happy Mother's Day. They didn't forget. It just wasn't important to them. After I very maturely reminded them (with a stomp of my foot, a declaration of how they all "stank," and a dramatic exit to my room) I was told Happy Mother's Day. The kids felt guilty and for a moment I felt bad. But you know what? I really don't ask for much. I just wanted to hear the words and maybe a cute homemade card. (which was made why I cried bitterly in my room) I know my kids love me, I know they are my gifts but a mom does like to feel appreciated every once in a while. Just one day a year! Like my good friend Ginny said, they even had 365 days this year to plan! It was a leap year! No excuse! Maybe I am too about "me" (don't comment on that please!) but it did hurt. Everyone at church was telling me and I just wanted to hear those words from my family. This does not mean my husband and children are cruel mean hearted people, they just weren't on the same page as me. So if you have a sweet Mother's Day story, I love you and I am happy for you, but I really do not want to hear it.

Things did get better that afternoon. Our friends, the Australian Ayer's, joined us for lunch. We had wonderful burgers, bratwursts, mashed potatoes, baked beans, and corn on the cob. For dessert, we had sparkling cider courtesy of the Ayers and an abundance of chocolate! I bought m&M's w/ almonds, Reese's pieces, chocolate chips, a Symphony bar and ice cream to have. All very good! I am glad that the Ayer's are laid back and didn't want anything fancy! (that's our friend The Hill's. We use our gravy boat when they come around!) All the boys dug up earthworms that afternoon while the little girls played dress up and Debbie and I gabbed. Later on the younger boys found a snake and I think the snake was the hit of the day. Here's a little video of the kids and the snake.

That night was Wet Wild and Wacky night at Awana's. I didn't get any pictures because I was late. (and apparently I was the "bad mom" who didn't bring towels for my children. They have friends! Why should I bring the towels?!)

This week is shaping up to be pretty good. My brother Christopher graduates this weekend. YIKES! When did he turn into an adult? I can't even look at him right now without wanting to cry! I am having a Premier Jewelry Party on Thursday night. (come around 6:30 if you are interested!) and Friday night we are going to see Prince Caspian with the Cornett's! Sunday night is the kids Awana ceremony, Monday is their choir concert, and Tuesday and Chelsea's band concert. So maybe by next Tuesday I will have more updates and pictures!

Pray for Chelsea! She is trying out for flag on Thursday afternoon around 4:00! She is very good but she is worried. There are not many positions on the flag line for HS and they judge harder. I will let you all know!

How come so many moms had bad mother's Days? Next year we should have our own! Or we buy something for our worthy friends!

They should be ashamed of themselves. I say you should just "forget" their birthdays. I guess I can be kinda mean though!!

The thing is, Eric could care less if I forgot his birthday. We are so different like that. I love "to-do's" but oh well! He got me a gift but I think it was an afterthought.

Are you talking about Papacito's in Arlington? Reason I ask is about 3 weeks ago, my Aunt and I had dinner there when I went to pick up my new camera. It was so delicious! It was very crowded.

So sorry about Mother's Day...I would hold 'em to a super awesome spectacular birthday ;)
Wonder what they would do if you went on strike, ha!
