Home is where the heart is....

My devotional this morning dealt with teaching your children about God. The passages were found in Deutoromony. I wish I knew them exactly (and I am waay to lazy to get up and look for them right now. I think it's chapter 6??) but it was talking about how we are teach our children all the time about the Lord, when we are in our home, when we are walking down the road, so on. My mind wandered of course and I got something else out of that devo.

You know the old saying..Home is where the heart is? I was thinking about where my heart lies. I also started thinking about what "home" means to me. Home represents many different places. My real home is of course Heaven. My home on earth is well...wherever Eric and the kids are. My parents (both sets) homes represent home to me even though I did not grow up there. Going to my grandmother's or my aunt's is another reminder of home for me. My heart lies in all these "homes." Home is not a physical place. It is where you are comfortable and where you feel loved and accepted. My house is great but I want my house to be a home. I hear so many adults refer to visiting their parents as "going home." I used to think that was weird but as I was thinking about that this morning, it made sense. And most of us refer to going to Heaven as going Home. Something I have always wanted Chels to understand is that even though she does not physically live with us, (or stay with us for that matter right now BUT keep praying it!) that this is her home. That is my newest goal. To make my house a home!

Then I started thinking about that we are to teach our children about the Lord when we are at "home." That to me means that when we are at my parents home, they are to be learning about the Lord. When we (as a family) are with friends in their homes, we should be learning about the Lord. This thought pierced my heart. I have a HUGE issue with gossiping and my words do not reflect Our Lord when I am always with other people. That is my prayer. That wherever we are with our children that we will be teaching them about the Lord. (no we will not be sitting down and having sermons and singing this little light of mine. It's all in your walk and your talk!)

If you made it through my ramblings and understood that...good for you! If not, that's ok. This is more for when I print all of my posts into a book for my kiddo's! I hope they understand my ramblings! ;-)

What a great reminder about our homes! We too often forget that those little eyes and ears see and hear everything! Thanks again for sharing your discoveries in your devos!
