Ok, so what does one do on a staycation? I googled Longview. We have done everything remotely fun in this town. The boardwalk in Shreveport..been there, done that. HELP! I need some fun ideas!!
visit the off the map places... go to the small mom and pop restaurants (lil' thai house on freedonia, or pho vietnamese place on high) or do a progressive meal throughout town (each family member picks a course and the place to eat it)
find a family who has animals and go help care for them.
volunteer somewhere for an afternoon. you have some free time, give it away!
take family photos in downtown alleys and countryside roads or do a photo scavengar hunt around east texas.
each make a list of 3 things you would never do and do at least one (like the free ballroom dancing saturday night)
let everyone stay up late watching movies and camp out in the living room.
go to lake hawkins and have a sand castle contest (they have a decent "beach").
remember that it's not always about entertainment, it's about making memories together.
you'll have fun as long as you're getting to "get away" from the everyday stuff.
If its just you and Eric for a night... go to that resturant that you have been talking about.
If the kids are with you.... go pick strawberries at McPeaks and go eat in Pittsbutg at the soda fountain and then go to the homestead museum (since Eric wants to learn to homestead and you can see that cool Ekeziel flying machine).
Go rent a boat and a tube at Lake Bob Sandlin (its around $50 for the day) and take the kids tubing! I loved that as a kid!!
Watch lots of silly movies!
I like Dana's idea of a scavenger hunt. Ask everyone to send in one idea for a hunt! No telling where it may take you!! That would be awesome!!
Hi! Just found your blog. I actually live right outside of Longview. I use to be a travel agent! Some suggestions are the caldwell zoo in Tyler or the Shreveport Sci-Port Discovery Center or water town usa in Shreveport or the water park(indoor) at the villages in Flint. I think the kids would love any of these!
